Our Spitalfields Pizza Bar at 25 Sandy’s Row is our first one, tucked between Liverpool Street station and Old Spitalfields Market, minutes from Brick Lane. We are the pit stop on a market wander, the proper lunch away from the City desk, and the easy answer when nobody can agree where to eat.
Fire-baked, Roman style, thin & crispy, made to order, served superfast, all day. Margherita £5.95, Marinara £3.95, plus salads, savoury bites, gelato and frozen cocktails at £4.95 – all at the same honest prices. Open 11am to 11pm, seven days a week.
Spitalfields is spoilt for pizza, and most of it leans one way: soft, puffy Neapolitan pizza with a floppy middle. Ours goes the other way entirely. Roman style means fresh dough rolled thin, fired hard and finished with a crust that snaps, topped with locally fresh-made mozzarella and not much else getting in the way.
The space matches the food. This is a Pizza Bar rather than a restaurant with ceremony: order at the till, take a seat at a big shared table and the kitchen does the rest at speed. It is friendly, loud in the right way and completely unbothered about how long you stay. The crust is the giveaway that something different is happening here: rolled thin, fired hard and finished crisp enough to hear, with the fire oven doing the work in full view of the room.
The location earns its keep every day of the week. We are a short walk from Spital Square and the main market entrance, close enough to Liverpool Street that a train home fits after dinner, and near enough to Petticoat Lane and Brick Lane that a whole east London afternoon can end at our tables. Market traders, City workers, students and weekend wanderers all get the same deal: fast food that is nothing like fast food. It also makes us the easy meeting point: whoever is coming from the City, the market or the Overground ends up walking roughly the same distance, and nobody has to defend the choice afterwards.
This is also where it all started. Spitalfields is our first Pizza Bar, the room where the fire oven, the till and the big tables first proved the idea, and everything the other four sites do was learned here first. The market has watched us grow up, and we like to think we have returned the favour one pizza at a time.
Looking for a pizza restaurant in Spitalfields built around speed and fair prices? Pizza Union is a fire-baked Pizza Bar at 25 Sandy’s Row, a short walk from Spitalfields Market and Liverpool Street. We make thin, crispy Roman-style pizza to order and have it out in minutes. Call us a Pizza Bar rather than a restaurant if you like, but as a pizza restaurant Spitalfields can rely on for a fast, fairly priced, proper meal, we are the easy choice.
We are open from 11am to 11pm, seven days a week.
We are at 25 Sandy's Row, London, E1 7HW, between Liverpool Street station and Old Spitalfields Market.
Walk-ins cover everyday visits. Groups can reserve our big tables through the Group Booking page.
Yes. The Marinara is vegan, along with the mixed olives and the hot chilli dip. Vegan Mozzarella can be added to any pizza.
The menus stay short on purpose: fire-baked pizzas from £3.95, vegetarian friendly options across the board, a vegan Marinara at £3.95, salads, gelato and a bar list of beer, wine and frozen cocktails. Vegan mozzarella can be added to any pizza. There is no private room to hire and no need for one. Big tables handle birthdays and team nights, and the Group Booking page takes a minute. Click & Collect and delivery run from Spitalfields too, so the market crowd, the desk crowd and the sofa crowd all get fed the same way. Sister Pizza Bars in Aldgate, Holborn, Hoxton and Kings Cross do the same job across the rest of central London.
Weekends bring the market crowds and weekdays bring the City, and the kitchen does not change gear for either: the same fifteen pizzas, fired the same way, at the same prices, every single day.
